Since founding the firm in 2003 Mr. Bustamante has represented a diverse range of clients from industry leading public companies such as Dupont, Carters, Iridium Satellite, ING Bank, and Rosetta Stone, to small and medium sized businesses. His work for these valued clients has often involved negotiation and collaboration with some of the largest and most important customers and suppliers in the world as well as their attorneys and professional consultants. He has experience working on multi-million dollar, global transactions as well as smaller deals but treats each matter with the knowledge and respect of its importance to the client. Mr. Bustamante has worked to set up and support business entities for clients all over the world and has worked with regulatory authorities in many countries to obtain permits, authorizations and licenses for said clients. He maintains a network of associated counsel that covers all regions of the world. He understands the culture of business at all levels in the US as well as in the Americas, Europe, Asia, and Middle East/Africa.
CORPORATE EXPERIENCE
Before founding the firm Mr. Bustamante spent 18 years in various corporate law departments with the last position as Assistant General Counsel and Assistant Secretary for Teleglobe Communications Corporation between 1996 and 2005, Mr. Bustamante directed the Sales and Marketing, Corporate, Contracts, and Intellectual Property law groups in the company’s Legal Department. During his tenure with Teleglobe he was the sole or lead attorney in major sales, acquisition, joint venture, and divestiture transactions throughout the world and was responsible for the governance of US and international corporate subsidiaries in more than 40 countries. He developed and negotiated various sales channel agreements, managed litigation and dispute resolution for a number of domestic and international matters, and was responsible for the management of an extensive US and international intellectual property portfolio. Following the bankruptcy filing of Teleglobe in 2002 he was the lead attorney in major asset sales transactions in Europe, Latin America, and Asia. He also headed the team that guided over 25 Teleglobe affiliates and subsidiaries through various international bankruptcy, insolvency, and liquidation proceedings. He has a solid knowledge of international and US telecom regulations, as well as US and international accounting and taxation principles.
Between 1992 and 1996 Mr. Bustamante worked for Sprint International as the staff attorney responsible for all legal matters arising in the European, Asian, and Latin American divisions of the company. He was extensively involved in the transaction that led to the merger of Sprint International with Deutsche Telekom and France Telecom into Global One Communications (now operating under the name Equant Communications).
Prior to 1992 Mr. Bustamante worked for Digital Equipment Corporation and Honeywell Corporation where he specialized in government contracts, intellectual property, information technology, and telecommunications law.
Between 1990 and 1995 he taught courses in International Law, Substantive Law, Government Contracts, and Civil Procedure in the Legal Assistants Program of the George Washington University College of Continuing Education.
Mr. Bustamante has a B.A. in International Politics from the Rochester Institute of Technology and obtained his Juris Doctor from George Mason Law School in 1986. He is a member of the Virginia bar and is fluent and able to conduct business in Spanish and German, and conversational in French.
